Authorities in Gurgaon should first plan for more generation of power and then devise big plans for upgrading the infrastructure in the city. And equally responsible for the power mess are the citizens who don't bother to save the precious energy.
THERE IS no use to draw new plans on paper to upgrade the infrastructure in the Millennium City till there is enough power back up. MCG is coming out with Rs 25 crores plan to upgrade the infrastructure in Gurgaon alone.
This year monsoon has not been kind enough to Gurgaonites and thus there is a power shortage everywhere. Adding to the problems, people have been spotted wasting energy for nothing. Air conditioners are powered on in the rooms while no one is sitting there. I have seen in the office of a joint commissioner and a Manger, CFC who were both not on duty still their class IV employees were enjoying the facility. Even at homes we can't only take care of our power billing but can also save power if we are bit serious to switch on the lights only when needed.
There is a power pilferage as well courtesy DHBVN staff. In and around villages, the citizens manage to draw direct power from overhead main supply lines and even the meters installed don't record the correct units consumed since they are adjusted with the help of the staff.
Let there be a surprise check on the approved load. People with 1.0 KW load are using 3 air conditioners, which fuse very often, adding to the inconvenience of the neighbours. The transformers are not regularly serviced and their oil is not changed for years altogether, which again leads to power failure. Even overhead cables are completely worn out and require a change to bear the load. Let the authorities first of all arrange the extra generation of power before drawing big plans on paper.
