Santa Claus needs a Christmas Gift
It is that time of the year when our beloved Santa Claus comes calling with his bagful of gifts. But, times have changed and that has got Santa worried. Therefore, this time around he wants something from us too.

ON THE eve of Christmas, joining us in an exclusive conversation is the beloved and the most popular visitor of all, the magnanimous and the philanthropic Santa Claus.

It’s a privilege to have you with us Santa, how has the journey to India been?

It was a long journey. Was held up at Customs though, the immigration authorities were not ready to let me in with my armload of gifts. My visa had also expired, had to talk my way through it.

So you took a flight?

Yes, of course. With all the low cost carriers, that seemed to be the best option.

How are you finding it here?

Oh, it’s really hot here. You know, I’m not used to it. Even my reindeers do not like it. But, for all my beloved children who had sent their requests throughout the year, I’m here with their gifts.

What requests do you get?

Oh, some are the usual ones like chocolates, teddy bears etc. Don’t worry, I haven’t got any poisonous Chinese toys with me. Lately some children have started asking me for PlayStations, mobile phones etc. One of them wanted to break Sachin’s record in one-day internationals, another wanted a role opposite Aishwarya Rai.

Speaking of Bollywood, we have heard that you’ve been offered a role?

(Smiles) Yes, in fact a few of them, but I don’t really have time. After the festivities get over, I need to get back to the North Pole. I’ve got a few important issues to handle there. The arctic ice cover has started melting rapidly. As for acting, my cousin Fred won’t mind taking up Bollywood roles.

Yes, global warming is indeed a big threat.

(Sounds worried) Oh, it certainly is. We need to do something quickly, else I’ll be losing my beloved home in the Arctic. I heard of the Batti Bandh initiative in Mumbai. It was great but we need to do more or we might just be losing our planet. Global warming is happening right now and we need to do all we can to curb it. Since centuries, I’ve been gifting children every Christmas. Its time they gifted me.

I wish that for all the efforts I’d taken all these years, for a gift in return. I would request all Earthlings to come together in saving our beloved planet. The Earth is heating, within years we’ll be having hurricanes, tsunamis and cyclones all over the planet, all as a result of global warming. We need to move towards global cooling. All depends on us, to make this the best generation of mankind or the last.

Yes Santa, I’m sure we would all come together in saving Earth. Is there anything in particular that we can do?

We need to save water, save the empty spaces falling prey to modernisation, save the trees and reduce pollution. Otherwise, global warming would lead to irreparable changes in the climate.

There are simple things we can all do.

Don’t keep your appliances on standby. It saves power. Recycle all the waste products and make good use of them. Walk to your office for a change or use as much of public transport as possible. And please plant trees; they will be the guardians of our future. If we want our children and grandchildren to enjoy the beauty of our planet, then we’ll all have to come together for this cause.

Thanks Santa, Christmas is just a day away, any messages for our readers.

Enjoy the festive spirits; remember it’s the time to be gifting generously.

Merry Christmas!! Ho Ho Ho!
