'Satyamev Jayate' nullified: Doctor caught aborting a girl child

As Aamir Khan hosts 'Satyamev Jayate' and participants reveal their horrific stories of abuse to the outside world, with an aim that such evils are eradicated, a doctor in Haryana has been arrested by police after she was allegedly caught aborting a girl child during a raid by health officials.

ON SOCIAL media, TV discusssions and newspaper editorials, only one issue is being discussed these days – Aamir Khan's TV show 'Satyamev Jayate' has literally taken the media by storm. While the show gets massive publicity - has the underlying message to educate people about the evils like female foeticide and child abuse failed to come out strongly? Yes, that is right – only today an 'educated' lady doctor has been allegedly caught red-handed aborting a girl child.

The doctor has been arrested after a team of health department officials raided her premises in Yamuna Nagar area of Haryana – a state infamous for female foeticides and skewed sex ratios. So has Aamir Khan's message become a victim of his personality and thereby failed to reached its intended targets. Well, yes one can argue that.

In his first show, Aamir has talked very high of daughters, saying they are precious but it seems the message has fallen on deaf ears and doctors, seen as the cream of the society - and acting like this is just pathetic.

A team of Red Cross officials were accompanying the health department team that raided bungalow no 43 in Jagadhari district posh Saraswati Colony, according to NDTV. Priyanka, a BMS doctor from UP was reportedly working with her sister Parul in the area for the last five years and if the cleaner at the clinic is to be believed, six to seven abortions are performed every month and foetuses are flushed in toilets.

Police are investigating the matter and a legal enquiry will follow. The lady doctor has reportedly told the police that she was performing the abortion because the woman's condition was critical. Though this must be her only way-out now but an exemplary punishment should be followed if she is found guilty. This will set an example for other such doctors who stoop so low for few bucks that don't hesitate to kill foetuses.
