Save time and money by finding a doctor online: J B Yadav
With you can fix an appointment with a doctor from the comforts of your living room. Citizen journalist Rajat Bhatia speaks to J B Yadav, managing director of Delhi-based Midas Group that formed the web portal where patients can find the best available doctors and book an appointment with just a click of the mouse.


What were the particular market and consumer needs that led you to start this website?

We are in the Internet business from last 10 to 12 years and keep doing research on a lot of things where Internet is a main stream for people. We started with another portal Here we are getting lot of traffic of parents who are searching for schools and filing admission forms and sending inquires. So from there we started sending newsletters to Internet users and started researching what other things people like to search on the Internet. We found that many people are looking for doctors. As many people are doing online ticket booking so in a similar way lots of people are looking for on-line availability of doctors so that they can fix an appointment with doctors in their localities. Like if somebody stays in Dwarka, he will find a doctor in Dwarka. That is how we started

What is the process for finding a doctor?

People need to go to the website, register themselves and find the doctor as per locality. Once they find the doctor they need to check his availability and accordingly can book an appointment. As soon as the booking is confirmed, the appointment message is sent to the doctor and our call centre team coordinates with both the patient and the doctor.

Why will doctors take your service? Do they need it?

Yes, of course. Firstly they also want more business and secondly they want their things to happen in a systematic way. For example, a doctor doesn’t want to see a group of 40 patients waiting necessarily at his clinic at a particular time. He would like only 4-5 people waiting at a particular time and that is where we play our part.

How is online registration with doctors a better idea than say approaching a doctor directly though a phone call?

On-line portal helps to find a doctor in a better way which saves time and money. Suppose you are new in Dwarka and want to find cardiologist so either you will take your car and find a doctor or a hospital. The second option is that you will go to the Internet and search such doctors in your location. If you find a list of 10 such doctors, your search doesn’t end there as you will need to individually find their experience, location and availability – which certainly is a time consuming process. But on, you can find everything without a need to make a phone call.

How much transparency is there in this on-line patient-doctor interface?

There is 100% transparency. We are doing noble work of helping patients to find different specialists in a particular locality and connect with them. We are just telling them to come to the website, search for doctor and book appointment and can directly tell their problem to the doctor, you don’t have to tell us anything. So we are asking nothing from the patient but just helping them to find the most suitable doctor. We also inform the doctor in advance about patients.

People have more faith in their family doctors and go to them. Why do you think they will choose you?

To visit family doctor one has to again take appointment and check for his/ her availability. So again we are just helping them to fix their appointments with doctors according to their best convenience.

Are you getting any feedback how the website has helped patients better than the conventional way of interacting with doctors?

Feedback is very positive. In first year, we registered 6000 doctors from Delhi NCR. We have given free trials to these doctors but now we have started charging doctors on yearly subscription basis. Almost 3000 people visit our website daily – which certainly tells how we are doing a better service than conventional way.

Does online booking reduce time and work in the entire process of interacting with doctors - from diagnosis and treatment?

Surely! As patient also get lots of options and one can choose as per their need and requirement quickly from the website. Otherwise they have to search them, inquire about them manually or calling their friends, which consumes lot of time. That also results in quick treatment.

What's your benefit and how is revenue generated?

Right now we are charging doctors only and that is the revenue.

How many doctors are associated with you? Are there any big names in your database?

We have more than 10,000 doctors registered with us. These doctors are reputed and popular for rendering great services in their respective fields.

How do you plan to expand your database outside Delhi NCR?

To start with we are focusing on Delhi NCR for 2-3 years then we will expand and will approach doctors from more cities in future.
