A GROUP of men in Lucknow have asked the government to create a mechanism for safeguarding the interests of husbands, who are at the receiving end of their nagging wives. The men have demanded that a male protection society should be set up to ensure that men are not harassed by their better halves.

The men in Lucknow sat on a Dharna and also took out a procession dressed up as grooms and marched through Lucknow demanding a National Commission for Men. A participant in the Dharna said that they wanted the plight of men to be heard and seen and an institution to resolve issues.

All India Welfare Committee for Husbands said that their main goal was to prevent the abuse of certain sections of Indian Penal Code by disgruntled women. The anti-dowry law in the country has been abused by women and their families to settle scores with their husbands, it said, adding that they wanted the misuse to end.
