IN THE latest development in the Bhopal gas tragedy case, the Supreme Court has allowed the Centre to take over the management of the Bhopal Trust Hospital that runs a multi-speciality treatment hospital for the people affected by the 1984 gas tragedy.
This move came into affect as the court had also accepted the resignation of its Chairman, A M Ahmadi, who has also served as a former Chief Justice. The apex court also said it appreciated the service rendered by Ahmadi, who had been running the trust for 12 years. This order was delivered by a bench comprising Chief Justice S H Kapadia, Justices K S Radhakrishnan and Swatanter Kumar whereas Attorney General G E Vahanvati passed the message of the Center to take over the management.
So far, the trust has successfully managed to build 32 health centers and six hospitals. Meanwhile, for the benefit of the gas tragedy victims, department of bio-technology and department of atomic energy will work together with the management of the BMHT and strengthen it in order to build a super speciality research hospital.
