SC refuses to stay new law by TN Govt allowing Jallikattu
The Supreme Court (SC) has now also allowed the Tamil Nadu (TN) state government to hold Jallikattu from February 1 as a part of Pongal festival.

However, the SC directed the state government and administration to maintain law and order during the events.

The SC has pulled up the state for not effectively controlling law and order situation during the protests last week at Marina beach.

The Tamil Nadu government had passed a new bill last week to defuse the violent protest at Marina Beach for allowing Jallikattu. The SC has observed that the breach of law and order should not happen.

It may be recalled that subsequent to TN Bill, the Animal Welfare Board and activists had moved the SC against the new law passed by TN allowing Jallikattu.

The plea was that the new law violated the 2014 judgement of the court banning the Jallikattu sport that had inherent cruelty towards bulls that were force to participate in the sport.
