THIS REFERS to welcome strictures by Supreme Court against Amar Singh for now withdrawing phone-tapping charge against the ruling Congress. It is indeed unfortunate that courts are being used to settle scores and valuable time and resources of the courts are being wasted only for political reasons. In the instant case also, it is clear that Amar Singh has changed his stand because of his trying to get near to the Congress after his being expelled from Samajwadi Party. Otherwise also, such change of stand is always there in cases filed by CBI on politicians.
The country’s premier investigating agency suddenly takes a U-turn if the involved politician is subsequently allied with the ruling party. Extraordinary high costs should be imposed on such change of stand without any valid reason for misuse of temples of justice for political reasons.A strong message needs to be sent to such people, who misuse courts and other government institutions to fight and settle political scores. They should be suitably punished by means of heavy fines for wasting the precious time of the judiciary, which is severly handicapped by the shortage of judicial staff, leading to thousands of cases remaining pending in the courts.
