A one-day seminar on pedagogically-sound science instruction was held at St. Paul's Boys School in Indore was held on July 22. The seminar was attended by 25 teachers from 8 local schools which was organized by Frank Educational Aids, Noida, for improvement of science education at elementary school level.
Inaugurating the seminar, the venue principal, Fr.
Thomas Mathew said that since at the primary school, a teacher has to
teach all the subjects, he or she needs frequent training to upgrade
teaching skills. For teaching of science, the best way to organize
the school-based seminars, he added.
The resource person of the seminar, this CJ, held
sessions on pedagogy of science instruction; activity-based teaching;
construction of diagrams and visual symbols; and concept mapping.
One-hour four sessions were held on teach topic. A thirteen-page
module and course-ware was prepared for the seminar in advance to
systematize the proceedings.
The participants of the seminar appreciated the
school-based format and use of advance organizers to conduct of the
seminar. The activities done with readily available materials were
liked by the participants for understanding science concepts.
