'School Science Pedagogy' workshops held at Gorakhpur and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh
Science teaching workshops on "School Science Pedagogy" were organised in Gorakhpur and Varanasi on November13 and 14 by Seagull Learning with an objective to revitalise classroom science instruction. The workshops emphasised the cognitive development through higher order thinking skills like understanding, analysis and skills.

According to the workshop organizers, with the emergence of digital media, linking of textbooks to information processing skills and reorganisation of information in graphics has assumed a lot of important and both the teachers and students need to be trained in these skills so as to become self-learners.

Moreover, hands-on experiences such as doing experiments, activities and designing projects are  important aspects os science instruction to gain insights into processes of science. Accordingly, during these workshops, low - cost science experiments will be emphasised. Teachers will be trained in writing activity sheets so as to systematise process - based learning of science.

Another highlight of the workshops was that the language and communication of science was emphasised. The hands on experience was given to around 150 participants at two places in making the words-pocket chart to create the text-rich classroom environment to reinforce new terms and vocabulary.

Furthermore, the workshops will discuss the vocabulary acquisition and acquaintance to scientific terminology so as have meaningful learning from the textbook and get into the reading habits purposefully. Language of science and its communication is also needed to be improved, said the resource person for the workshop.
