Scientists find new treatment for canker sores
The International Association for Dental Research, scientists have developed a new method for the treatment of Canker sores to enable effective healing of the sore and also help relieve the pain associated with it.

CANKER SORES are also known as aphthous ulcers and are shallow lesions that develop on the soft tissue of one's mouth or gums. These canker sores are always confused with cold sores, but both of them are different because cold sores are the sores that develop on the surface of your lips and are contagious. But canker sores are not contagious and are formed inside your mouth.

The possible triggers of canker sores can be toothpaste or mouthwash containing Sodium lauryal sulfate, a minor injury in the mouth due to some dental work, accidental cheek bite, spicy or acidic foods, overzealous brushing, sensitivity towards any kind of food, vitamin B 12 deficiency, allergic reaction due to some kind of bacterial inside the mouth, hormonal imbalance during menstruation and emotional stress.

The cause of canker sores can also depend on certain disease conditions like inflammatory bowel syndrome, celiac disease (serious intestinal disorder), Behcet's disease (rare disorder that causes inflammation throughout the body), HIV/AIDS and a faulty immune system attack. But canker sores are not associated with herps virus infection.

Canker sores appears oval or round with a white or yellow center and a red border. These are usually seen inside your mouth, lips, cheeks, at the base of your gums or under your tongue. The canker sores are of different types which includes minor, major and herpetiform sores. The symptoms of canker sores are different for different types.

The treatment of canker sores is not needed if it is a canker sore. But if the canker sore is unusually painful and persistent then in needs treatment. There are different options for the treatment of canker sores like mouth rinse containing the steroid dexamethasone, topical pastes with active ingredients such as benzocaine, amlexanox and fluocinonide, oral medications, cautery of sores and nutritional supplements.

The medications for canker sores are heartburn drug cimetidine and colchicine, these drugs are normally used to treat gout. The doctors can prescribe oral steroids as a medication of canker sores if it does not respond to any other treatment of canker sores. But home remedies are more preffered over medications for the treatment of canker sores, reported mayoclinic.
