Scientology and medical treatment
How does Scientology and medical treatment work together? In order to establish this belief, L Ron Hubbard developed a series of processes called 'Assists' to bring the spiritual element into healing, thereby greatly speeding the healing process

SPEAK TO any nurse, doctor or emergency response personnel and chances are they will have a story of some remarkable recovery that defies ’logic’ or mechanical explanations.

Throughout ages, men and women have known that one’s emotional and spiritual state has a tremendous effect on how people fare in every aspect of life — including health.

L Ron Hubbard looked into this very phenomenon in research, which he conducted while at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, California in 1945, where he was recovering from injuries sustained in action:

“All I was trying to establish was whether or not the mind regulated the body or the body regulated the mind. Therefore, if on some of these patients hormones did not work and on some of them they did, there might be a mental reason. If those patients on whom it did not work had a severe mental block, then it was obvious that regardless of the amount of hormone or medical treatment the person received, he would not get well. If the mind was capable of putting this much restraint upon the physical body then obviously the fact that was commonly held to be true that structure monitors function, would be false. I set out to prove this.”

On completing his research he found:

“You could change the man’s diet; you could change his exercise; you could do anything you pleased with him; you could change his operating environment and you did not change the environmental factor enough to make the endocrine dosages work.”

“In other words, with the changed-mind conditions, why hormones would work; but with changed physical conditions, the aspect of the hormones did not change. That was a very, very fundamental thing because it laid in my lap something very interesting - thought could change matter.”

And so it was that Hubbard developed a series of processes called ’Assists’ to bring the spiritual element into healing, thereby greatly speeding the healing process.

In India, a land rich in spiritual traditions, staff of the BM Birla Heart Research Centre immediately recognised the importance of Hubbard’s discoveries and arranged for the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tour to train their nursing tutors and senior nurses and those of the Calcutta Research Medical Institute, their sister hospital in Scientology Assists.

On completion of the training they were so pleased with the results that they invited all their nursing staff to do this training.

Does that mean that Scientology does not ’believe’ in medicine? No. The Church of Scientology has always encouraged its staff and parishioners to see medical doctors to handle the physical aspect of any illness or injury. Once a Scientologist with a physical condition receives the needed medical treatment he can resume counselling and can handle any spiritual trauma connected with the physical condition.

.People have always known that a good emotional state is medically beneficial. (Think Proverbs 15.13 form the Bible). But is it not enough just to say that a patients mood will affect their health, without turning to this mysterious entity called the spirit- something which is somehow you , yet which isneither your mind nor your body

.Scientology is a dangerous cult. Avoid if your kids have something like autism. The cult will try to get you to stop treatment. The scientology rabid fanaticism against psychiatry prevents them from getting help.
.How come the article doesn't have anything about operating thetans that Earth being used a prison planet by space aliens? Scientologists will lie right to your face and say their beliefs have nothing to do with a space alien named Xenu. Why do they have to hide their beliefs in shame? Because they are a cult founded by a science fiction writer.
.Hubbard did no medical research, he was not wounded in action, and his curing techniques are invented, bogus, ineffective and dangerous. His main discovery was how to manipulate people and make a lot of money out of them.
.> L Ron Hubbard looked into this very phenomenon in research, which he conducted while.... Wow, I am genuinely interested in his research. Tell me, by what method was his research validated scientifically? Oh, it wasn't? Could you point to me studies where Hubbard's techniques were applied to people that were sick and they got better? Oh, you can't? How about his hand written notes that may shed some light onto what he actually researched and the path he took? You can't show me those? So, take it on faith that he did research and he found out how to rid people of migranes, common colds and the like. When it would be so simple to do a study and PROVE that it worked. Wouldn't that shut the skeptics up? Oh right, I forgot. The Psychs control the scientific peer review journals thereby making rational and logical analysis of work impossible. Scientology is a joke. Worse then that it's dangerous to the freedoms of it's members and even regular citizens. It's time this cult came to an end.
.Too bad Hubbard was a complete fraud. He started Scientology and Dianetics out as a "self help" therapy and made wild claims about it curing anything but when the FDA and the government cracked down on his quackery, he rebranded it as a religion. Thus began the use of religion as shield for organized crime and racketeering and money laundering and numerous other felonious acts by the leaders and members of the new cult.
.The Church of Scientology addresses spiritual healing and only that. Like most other Churches. It's that simple.

Lesley, you are wrong when you say "Scientology addresses spiritual healing and only that." Scientology teachings often mention physical effects, such as curing disease, mending broken bones and preventing migraines. Simply google scientology medical claims to get educated.
Except that they don't try to do that. They claim they can make you "better and more able" which would include physical. And then there are the vitamin overdoses and the saunas that are "prescribed" by the cult. Then there is the emeter which they used to claim could fix anything but the FDA forced them to put a lable on the bottom of it saying it would not cure anything. But a lot of the ones in the cult buildings have had them illegally removed. They only keep them on the meters taken out for "stress tests".
."Assists" are nothing more than massages, they might help with cramped muscles, but are inadequate with anything else. Also they are administered by anyone who can 'audit', sometimes 12 year olds. If you need REAL medical assistance, stay away from someone who wants to put you on a primitive lie detecter..SEE A REAL DOCTOR. Stay away from the alilen worshipping cult!
.I have known several scientologists who stopped their medical treatment with disastrous results - by order of the church. From what I see the church of scientology just wants to control people and take their money.
.I worked as a doctor near Clearwater for 4 years, and we had scientology patients all the time coming into the facility. However, treatments must be approved by the Church wither its a head cold to cancer. If it wasn't approved then its a no go.
.Wow, Louanne... I see you're suddenly back posting all over the Internet, trying to do damage-control for Scientology and Jett Travolta's tragic death. This is the second story you've written -- with the exact same "Scientology believes in medicine" ending paragraph. Your first story was some nonsense about Volunteer Ministers. This one is just some more jibberish, with the *real* spin (last paragraph) tacked onto the end again. I see you took down your first story. Too transparent, wasn't it? People are going to (rightfully) wonder if Scientology's rabid dislike of psychiatry/psychology and disbelief in all psychiatric medicine led to Jett not getting the best possible treatment for his seizures. To anyone who doubts that Scientology encourages its believers to do stupid things, like discontinue anti-seizure medications, Google: "tory christman epilepsy" You'll find the story of a woman who was in Scientology for 30 years, who was repeatedly told she didn't need to keep taking epilepsy medications... that "Scientology" would handle the problem. She went off her meds, and suffered repeated Grand Mal seizures, until she went back on her medication and got the heck out of Scientology.
.I am never visting this site again because of that annoying nintendo wii advert!!!
