It just took Sebastian Vettel one lap to overtake Lewis Hamilton, who was in the pole position at the start of the Belgian Grand Prix. It was in the first lap itself that Vettel showed his skill behind the wheels by overtaking Hamilton and later won the race in an impressive manner as well.
"It was a fantastic race for us," said Vettel. "From start to finish really, very good tactics - it helped the first lap to have the tow off Lewis into Eau Rouge. Once I passed him I had incredible pace and could control the race,” reported BBC. It was no surprise that Vettel won this race, as he has been in great form winning five of the last 11 F1 races, which also includes his latest Belgian Grand Prix victory.
Lewis Hamilton after a splendid qualifying only managed to finish in third position. Nico Rosberg and Mark Webber finished fourth and fifth respectively. Apart from Vettel, the other driver who came up with an amazing drive through the Belgian circuit was Fernando Alonso, who was in the ninth position, when the race started.
Alonso showed why he is one of the most feared drivers in F1, when he jumped from ninth position to the fifth in the first lap itself. It was an amazing feat, after which he just kept driving better in each and every turn, resulting in second position.
In spite of such heroics by Alonso, Vettel's victory has given him a lead of 46 points ahead of Fernando Alonso. Vettel lie in the first position with 197 points and Alonso has 151 points. Vettel is favourite to win the 2013 drivers championship as well. In the constructor standings, it is Red Bull Racing-Renault, who leads the pack with 312 points and Mercedes lie second with 235 points.
