Second phase of voting underway in J&K and Jharkhand for assembly elections
Second phase of assembly elections voting has started in 18 constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir and 20 maoist affected constituencies in Jharkhand amid tight security.

The 18 assembly segments in J&K, are spread over five districts; two in the valley and three in Jammu region. The seven districts going to polls in Jharkhand are Seraikella-Kharsawan, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, Khunti, Simdega, Ranchi and Gumla.

In Jammu fates of 175 candidates, including deputy speaker, three ministers and a woman minister in the National Conference-Congress coalition government will be stored today in the memory of electronic voting machines.

While in Jharkhand fates of 223 candidates will be decided in the second phase. The candidates include former Chief Ministers Arjun Munda and Madhu Koda; Agriculture Minister Banna Gupta; Human Resource Development Minister Geetashree Oraon; Industries Minister Champai Soren; and senior BJP leaders Saryu Rai and Raghuvar Das.

Tight security arrangements have been arranged to foil any attempts by militants or naxalites to disrupt the democratic process in both the states. On Monday night Jammu and Kashmir had witnessed the killing of a sarpanch in Shopian district.

The third phase of voting will be held on December 9 in both the sates; fourth phase on December 14 and fifth and last phase of voting will take place on December 20. The counting of votes will take place on December 23.
