Security beefed up across the country on the eve of Republic Day
January 26 is one of the most important days in the Indian history, as our constitution came into being on this day, replacing the Government of India Act 1935. Republic Day celebrations take place all around the nation with the capital hosting a mega celebration with the who's who of India coming together at Rajpath. Hence, security is on high alert for the prestigious day not only in Delhi but also in other states.
Policemen are patrolling important locations such as Rajpath, where the celebrations will take place. Places around it like
India Gate have also witnessed an alarming increase of policemen to avoid any untoward incident. Some metro stations are also expected to remain closed for some hours. Crowded public places such as railways stations, metro stations and airports will also witness an increase in security.
The security has also been beefed across the Kashmir valley and police and paramilitary personnel would keep a close eye on the people, especially at entry points to avoid any militant activities. In North East India as well, security has been beefed up to avoid any kind of insurgent groups disrupting Republic Day celebrations. In Manipur, around seven insurgent groups have called for the boycott of the Republic Day celebrations. So, the
Manipur police have put all serious measures in place to deal with any kind of spoilsport.
K. Jayantha Singh, SP, Imphal West said, “In view of the general strikes, boycotting the Republic Day celebrations by various anti-social elements and underground organizations, the district police have taken all necessary measures to thwart any such attempts to disrupt the celebrations.”
Policemen in various parts of the country would play an important role in making sure that the 64th Republic Day celebrations pass on without any untoward incidents.
