Security intensified in Assam after blast, ambush in Kokrajhar
A red alert has been sounded across Assam in the aftermath of the explosion that took place in Guwahati on Monday. The blast rocked the Congress headquarter, injuring several leaders of the party.
IN ASSAM, a red alert has been sounded across the state after the powerful explosion that took place on Monday (March 14) at Rajiv Bhavan in Guwahati. Security arrangement has been intensified in Assam including Guwahati.
 
In Monday's blast, 5 persons including senior party officials  were injured. But they are stated to be out of danger. Meanwhile, police sources said that personal security would be provided to Congress leaders soon in the wake of threat from anti-talk faction of  ULFA. It may be recalled that Paresh Baruah led faction of ULFA claimed responsibility of Monday's blast. Most of  political parties including Congress, Asom Gana Parishad and BJP have condemned the incident.
 
On the other hand, Director General of Border Security Force, Raman Srivastava also reached Assam to take stock of the situation at Ultapani in Kokrajhar district. The DG visited the hospital at Bongaigaon, where the injured BSF personnel have been admitted. He is also likely to visit Ultapani where the incident occurred.
 
It may be noted that at least 9 BSF personnel were killed and 11 injured in an ambush by the anti-talk faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland in Kokrajhar district. The militants of the Ranjan Daimary-led faction used automatic weapons to ambush the convoy of the BSF in remote Ultapani forest area near the Indo-Bhutan border.
 
Meanwhile, in a related development the ruling Congress party has declared its second list of candidates in 6 consitituences. The party had earlier declared candidates in 118 consituences. The opposition BJP has also declared another list of candidates in 5 constituences. With this., BJP has so far announced 121 candidates. The party is likely to give away the remaining 5 seats to Janata Dal (United).
 
Bodoland People’s Front has also announced its second list of candidates in 5 constituences. Another list of candidates is likely to be announced within a day or two by the party.
