After recent arrest of an alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative from New Delhi, the security has been tightened. Suspecting, terrorists may use the station as a transit point Delhi Police deployed quick reaction (QRT) teams at railway stations.
SECURITY HAS been stepped up at railway stations in the capital following the recent arrest of an alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative from New Delhi station area. The special cell claimed that security has been strengthened at the New Delhi station after investigators found that two associates of the accused "had managed to escape.''
A top level source in the RPF said there were intelligence inputs that some terrorists might use the station as a transit point. Sources said 11 quick reaction (QRT) teams from Delhi Police, RPF and RPSF have been deployed at railway stations. In addition, officers of the rank of ACP in civilian clothes are making rounds of the platforms.
The RPF, too, has deployed additional personnel. "Sniffer dogs have been pressed into service even at car sheds. Only after mandatory checking, trains are allowed into the platforms,'' said a top RPF source.
