Selectors have given chance to youngsters for Bangladesh ODI series :Chetan Chauhan
The Indian team for the three ODI series in Bangladesh starting 15 June has been announced. On hindsight, the team lacks experience as it does not inlcude stalwarts of Indian cricket. MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ashwin amongst many have been rested for the series, hence paving way for youngsters, who are pleased with their inclusion.
But, on the contrary, India's squad for the five Test tour has also been announced, which resembles the best possible team. The selectors want the top Indian players to be fresh when they play England in their home soil. India's horror tour of England in 2011 still looms large over Indian cricket, where the Indian team was blanked 4-0. It was an embarrassing loss.

''We have a tough tour of England and some of the senior Indian players have been playing continuously for the last two years and add to it , the Indian Premier League. This is the most important reason that these players have been granted rest by the selectors,'' said former chairman of selectors, Chetan Chauhan.

Time could not have been any perfect for the selectors to give rest to these players, as they are playing a weaker team, Bangladesh. The youngsters have been included in the team, after some consistent performance in the domestic competition and the Indian Premier League.

Players such as Uthappa, Mohit Sharma, Rasool, Saha, Jadhav have been either consistent in the domestic circuit or the IPL, which helped them grab a place in the Indian team. Their form of late has been crucial in their selection - Uthappa is the current orange cap holder with 655 runs in ongoing IPL and Mohit Sharma, the purple cap holder has been a bright prospect with 22 wickets. While, Suresh Raina would be leading the team in the tournament.

There is no doubt about their talent, but when they travel away from home, they falter, which is a major concern. A good performance against Bangladesh might not immediately open the doors for them in the Indian ODI team, but they are sure to get a chance when players get injured.

Players such as Sehwag and Yuvraj could also have been selected for the ODI series, but they were not chosen as they have lacked consistency. The selectors have selected a team, completely on merit. ''Still, the doors have not been closed for them. Sehwag and Yuvraj can be brought back, if they perform in the domestic circuit. The selectors have given youngsters a chance, '' said Chetan Chauhan.
