Self-empowerment is pre-requisite to empower others
It has become exceedingly clear that empowerment, equality and equity are inter-linked. And, to understand the linkage, the concept of empowerment is needed to be seen in relation to all dimensions of inequality and discrimination that exist in the families, communities and organizations.

One must work hard on one's own personal empowerment or self-empowerment before indulging into empowering others. Personal empowerment come by developing social skills and spiritual potentials to be relate equitably to all – living and non-living.

So, self-empowerment is a pre-requisite to empowering others. Better, we work for our own empowerment, first and foremost, to be able to empower others with mutually respectful relationships.

Here is an ABC poem on 'empowerment'.

A: Acquiring knowledge and understanding of social and gender relations and the ways in which these relations may be changed

B: Becoming confident through networks and gaining a voice in decision-making

C: Creating a more just social and economic order

D: Developing a sense of self-worth, a belief in one's ability to secure desired changes and the right to control one's life

E: Equal rights and entitlements to human, social, economic, and cultural development

Here are two haiku on self-empowerment.

Empower yourself-

Through autonomy, self-drive -

And get self-enabled.

To gain mastery

Over life skills for self-growth -

 Self-sufficiency
