Selfie mania has caught up with the youth even in the remotest villages of India!
Even in the remote villages of India, among teenagers, the word selfie is very common now. All over India, young people seem to have gone crazy about taking selfies. They do not hesitate to take liberties while capture pictures anywhere, even causing danger to life.

Not only that, in villages, they do not spare anyone when they spot visitors with a smartphone and insist for a selfie. It seems that selfie mania has caught up even kids in far flung places as a trend to extent of getting narcissistic.

Recently, I went to the an interior village of Rajasthan for a field visit to have a look an alternative education centre for girls being run by an NGO and a co-educational government school. Since, I was carrying a smartphone, at the both the places, students virtually begged for selfies with them.  After their relentless demand and requests, I gave in and a 10 minute session was held for selfies.

Selfie has become a common parlance but the word has been even included in the prestigious Oxford Dictionary. A selfie is considered as a self-portrait photograph taken with the front camera of a smartphone held in the hand or mounted on a selfie-stick.

Even noted figures of the world including high profile political leaders allow seliefies with their followers and fans.

Taking selfies at marriages, parties, social gatherings, events at home, reality shows, stage shows, award functions, meetings at offices, visits to sightseeing places and educational institutions has become a common sight. Later, these photographs are shared on social websites.

However, some studies have highlighted the adverse effects of selfie craze since soon it becomes an addiction. Many psychological ill-effects such show-offs, vanity, flattery and at times, reckless adventures have been reported.

The latest mobile photo apps such as Instagram and Snapchat have led to enhanced craze of selfies. Recently, selfies have been taken in space that  included those by astronauts and got shared on the net.

The competitions and award-winning events have given further boost to selfie mania such as "Selfie Olympics" on Twitter, where users took self-portraits in unusual situations which also got spread of with the usage of the hashtags and #selfiegame.

Even the Facebook status updates with new selfie photos have seen an upswing.  To top it all, opening of a pop-up Museum of Selfies is on cards for opening in near future in California.

Furthermore, posting intentionally unattractive selfies is common for their humour, fun and figure-show and sexy poses to the extent of being narcissistic. That is rather too much a perverted act, many think.
