Seminar organised in Punjab's Ferozepur to fight against drug menace
The police and district administration jointly organized a State Level Seminar 'HAMLA - Attack', at Genesis Dental College auditorium, to control the 'Durg Devil'.

Kamal Sharma, President Punjab BJP was the Chief Guest of the function while V.K.Sharma, Commissioner, Ferozepur/Faridkot Divisions and Amarjit Singh Chahal, DIG Ferozepur Range were the Special Guests. Er. D.P.S. Kharbana, Deputy Commissioner, Gurpreet Singh Toor, SSP and in good number of panch, sarpanch, aanganwadi workers, police and district administration officers, youth clubs, education institution, college students were present.

V.K. Sharma, Commissioner while speaking on the occasion said, we can have control over the drug addicts with multi-prone strategies, with the support of family, under guidance of doctor and treating the drug addict as patient. We should adopt sympathetic attitude with the drug-addicts and treated after understanding their disease, he added.

Kamal Sharma, President, BJP Punjab in his address appreciated the initiative taken by the police and district administration organize the seminar - HAMLA - and it is a wake-up call for all of us as we are going away from our inheritance.

He said, it is good that all things have come on a big canvas in black and white and it is not time to play blame-game rather to accept the challenges before us which are very dangerous. Earlier, we have won the ground battles also and we have to fight against the narco-terrorism started under a conspiracy, by our neighbour country.

Er. D.P.S. Kharbanda straightway said, it is time to think over “What next?” and police has to work with a vision of deterrent. He said, the seminar will be more meaningful if we convey the message of - HAMLA - to at least five people to create awareness of the campaign against ‘drug-devil’ started by the government.

Gurpreet Singh Toor, SSP expressing his shock over the recent arrests of youths involved in drugs are well-educated and less than of 30 years of age, shared the affects of drugs and need to work on its prevention by putting a check on its supplies, rehabilitation of drug addict and awareness against drugs, through his Power Point Presentation.

Sharing his experience SSP said, I make studies of addicts by shaking hand to go to know the root cause reasons behind his involvement and to plug the supply holes.

Showing concern over the songs with use of drug words, SSP said, this type of literature too plays a role for instigating towards drugs. He assured that shortly the committees at the village level will be formed to put a check over the drug business.

Dr.Rameshwar Singh, a key note speaker said we have not give a serious call on the issue and  we continue with the present state of affairs, the day is not far when we will again be bondman and coming generations will not forgive us if proper check on use of intoxicated drugs is not made immediately.

On this occasion, a skit ‘Wapsi’ was also presented by Shamsher Singh and others of Lok Chetna Kendra, Zira with a message to the society to be serious to save our families from drugs.

Dr. J.P.S.Bhatia and Dr.Ravi Pal Singh in this address said, the reason behind the increase of drug is pshychological and both family and society should cooperate with the patient for its eradication.

Those who have returned back to normal life from drug addiction - Amandeep Sihgh and Jasbir Singh from Amritsar, Gurpartap Singh from Tarn Taran and Nitin Gupta from Ferozepur - also shared their views and said that chronic patient of drug addict can get rid from this diseas with will power and with the support of family, society and doctor. As a mark of respect, a standing ovation was given by the audience present in the jam-packed auditorium.

Dr. Hari Dutt producer of Punjabi films like Mamla Gadbad Hai was specially present to witness the Seminar, who is making a documentary film on drug addiction.
