Senior Tripura government official suspended after rape charge
A senior official of the Tripura government who was accused in a rape case has been suspended today by the government. The government official had allegedly raped a woman at his private residence in Agartala.
On Monday, a woman had lodged an FIR with the West Agartala police station. In her complaint to the police, she had alleged that Tripura Civil Service officer, Panna Ahmed called her at his private residence to discuss house rent and raped her. The woman is a mother of two children.

The woman, later informed her husband, who is a lawyer and then lodged a complaint against Ahmed. Police have registered a case under Section 342, 376, 506 of Indian Penal Code. Though police rushed to his residence to arrest him, he had already left the place by the time police got there.

The woman underwent a medical test and recorded her statement before a magistrate on Tuesday.

Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar has ordered suspension of the accused officer with immediate effect. The Chief Minister's order came after obtaining reports from the District Magistrate and police. The government also asked the West Tripura District Magistrate and police authorities to separately inquire the incident and take appropriate action.

The accused was posted as a joint director of sports and youth affairs department. As per reports, since the FIR was lodged, he has been absconding.

Police have conducted various raids to trace him, but he hasn't been traced yet. The opposition political parties of the state including Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress have started agitations calling for the police to arrest the accused officer.
