Separatist leader Masarat Alam finally arrested by police for his anti-India rally; Hurriyat leader Geelani still under house arrest
Under continuous pressure from the Centre and the alliance partner in the state BJP, the Jammu and Kashmir government led by PDP finally ordered state police to arrest separatist leader Masarat Alam Bhat today.

Masarat who was placed under house arrest since yesterday night was formally arrested today from his home in Habbakadal area of the city early this morning.

He is arrested for waving Pakistani flag and chanting anti-India slogans during a rally held in Kashmir on Wednesday to welcome the hardline Hurriyat leader Sayed Ali Shah Geelani, who had returned to the Valley after spending winters in Delhi. Geelani is placed under house arrest after that anti-India rally.

The J&K police after formally arresting Masarat has taken him to Shaheed Gunj police station in Srinagar. He is likely to be sent to after being produced before the magistrate.

Masarat Alam, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, and Peer Saifullah were booked by the J&K police under section 13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Yesterday India's Union home minister Rajnath Singh had asked the state government to take strictest possible action against those who were involved in the anti-India rally. Singh talked to the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and told him that the it was a issue of national security and it cannot be compromised.

Responding to pressure from the Centre Jammu and Kashmir's CM Mufti Mohammad Syeed had said yesterday that law would take its own course over the mater of anti-India rally. He added that if anyone had made a mistake, the law will do its work.
