MEDIA REPORTS say that the charges against former International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn may be dropped when he appears in the court in Bronx on August 23. However, in an attempt to get justice, the French maid who accused Strauss-Kahn of making sexual advancements towards her at the uptown Sofitel Hotel in New York, has now filed a civil case against Strauss-Kahn on Monday in New York. In the case Nafissatou Diallo alleged sadistic attack and sought unspecified compensation in return.
Although the exact amount was not mentioned in the suit, the compensation was only referred to as an award of damages in an amount to be determined at trial, plus prejudgment interest, as quoted by an American daily.
Diallo a resident of Bronx in New York took favour of her residence’s geographical location as the court is known to favour victims who file civil suits.
However, Strauss-Kahn and his lawyers have dismissed the suit, and alleged that Diallo was keen on getting a hefty share from Strauss-Kahn’s fortune. Before the allegations of sexual harassment surfaced against Strauss-Kahn, it was widely expected that he will take over the office of the President of France.
Defending Diallo’s moves, the attorneys were quoted by the same daily that they have maintained from the beginning that the motivation of Mr Thompson and his client was to make money. The filing of this lawsuit ends any doubt on that question. The civil suit has no merit and Mr Strauss-Kahn will defend it vigorously. They further implicated Strauss-Kahn by saying that he "intentionally, brutally and violently sexually assaulted Ms Diallo and in the process humiliated, degraded, violated and robbed Ms Diallo of her dignity as a woman.
