Seven cases registered against Bodo MLA arrested for Assam riots
Seven cases have been registered against Pradeep Brahma who was arrested for his alleged role in Assam riots. Earlier Muslims in various relief camps had told reporters that they had witnessed firsthand how the MLA fired guns on minority community besides setting their houses on fire.

IN ONE of the shocking incidents, Pradeep Brahma, a Bodoland People’s Front MLA from Kokrajhar West was taken into custody by the Assam police for alleged rioting.

On Thursday morning, Brahma was arrested and according to the Inspector general of Assam police, he (Brahma) was held after seven cases were registered against him in Fakiragram and Dotama police stations in Kokrajhar district.

Following the fresh violence between Bodo tribals and Muslims in Dhubri district on Wednesday night, indefinite curfew was re-imposed in Kokrajhar. One person was reportedly injured and two were reported missing.

The arrest of MLA, though seems to have given a clue about the origin of violence but the government needs to be transparent and make sure that the MLA, if found guilty is awarded an exemplary punishment so that his fans and followers also desist from violence.

Earlier, Muslims in various relief camps had told reporters that they saw MLA firsthand firing guns on the minority community people and setting their houses on fire.
