Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati says Maharashtra drought due to Sai Baba worship
Hurting the sentiments of lakhs of devotees of Sai Baba, Shankaracharya of Dwaraka-Sharda Peeth Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati has attributed the drought-like situation in Maharashtra to the worship of the 'unworthy' Shirdi Sai Baba.

Shankaracharya who is at Haridwar now, called Sai Baba a 'fakir' (beggar) and said that worshipping Sai Baba was 'inauspicious' and brought drought in Maharashtra. Shankaracharya also quoted scriptures to back his claims and said, "Calamity strikes where those unworthy of worship are worshipped. Such places suffer drought, flood, death or fear. Maharashtra is facing all of these."

Sai Baba of Shirdi, also known as Shirdi Sai Baba, was an Indian spiritual master who was regarded by his devotees as a saint. While Shankaracharya is against worshipping of Sai Baba and had even asked his devotees to remove Sai Baba's photographs and idols from the temple.

Social media users have questioned the logic given by Shakaracharya asking him if Sai Baba worship is reason behind the Maharashtra drought then why there's drought like situation in Rajasthan and MP?

The 94-year-old also reacted on the Shani temple row and said that women should not have entered the sanctum sanctorum of the Shani Shingnapur temple. He said that it would bring bad luck to them and will lead to crimes such as rapes against them.

Shankaracharya reportedly said, "Shani is paap grah (planet of sins). Worshiping him will lead to rise in crime against women," as reported by TOI.

Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati has been severely criticized by Twitteratis for his Shani temple remark also.
