Sharad Poornima Festival to be celebrated tonight
In Jaipur, the festival of Sharad Purrnima is being observed today, October 15, by worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and ending the Devi Paksh - an extended version of Navratri festival. The main celebration in the city has been planned by Shri Prembhaya Mandal Samiti.

The festival is celebrated on the full moon night of Ashwin month of Hindu calendar with worship and consuming thick masala kheer.

People of Jaipur will throng at the Temple of Prembhaya Sarkar near Chandpole in the city where the devotional songs will be sung till mid-night and thereafter kheer will be distributed to the assembled devotees. The deity will be dressed in white clothes and decorated with the seasonal flowers and offered kheer at mid-night.

Many residents will have the kheer on rooftops under the moon light. It is believed that since the moon and earth being closer on this night, the rays of moon falling on the kheer have health-imparting effects.

I have also planned to prepare thick masala kheer with dry fruits in the evening and allow it to cool in the moon light to be taken at mid-night on the roof-top.

At a few places, the last garba and dandiya dances have been planned to end Devi Paksha festival. However, eating kheer in white kurta pyajama has its own charm on Sharad Poornima night.
