Shashi Kapoor turns 76 today
Bollywood lovers across India may not know who Balbir Raj Prithviraj Kapoor is, as he is better known in the bollywood circles by his name, Shashi kapoor, who turns 76 today. His famous dialogue, ''Mere pas maa hai,'' still rings in the ears of his fans worldwide. He was destined to be an actor and faced the camera as a child artist in Meena. He was also honoured with Padma Bushan, India's third highest civilian award in 2011. He has acted in 175 films.

He made his debut in 1961, Dharma Putra movie as a protagonist. He played a prominent role in 63 movies and multi starred in 53. During his career he provided Bollywood with a number of hit movies such as Kabhi Kabhi, Deewar, Sharmili, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Suhag, Waqt, Trishul, Chor Machaey Shor, just to list a few.

In a number of movies, he paired with Rakhi, Zeenat Aman and Sharmila Tagore. At the peak of his career, he was working in so many movies simultaneously that he was fondly known as 'Taxi Kapoor' literally travelling from one set to another during the course of the day. But, he slowly faded from the limelight and worked in 'Jinnah', a biographical film of Mohammed Ali Jinnah in 1998, which was his last movie in Bollywood.

He is the one of the first names to be reckoned amongst actors, who made a successful career in English films, which he started in 1963. He is also an efficient film producer and a wonderful human being. Shashi Kapoor contribution to Indian cinema has been immense, hence he holds a special place in the heart of his fans.
