Shashi Tharoor's comments about Bhagat Singh and Kanhaiya - much ado about nothing
Only last Sunday evening , a controversy erupted over Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's statement about JNU students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar, who is facing sedition charges. In his over 43-minute long speech at JNU campus. Shashi Tharoor said, "Bhagat Singh was a young man in his 20s with Marxist beliefs who had great passion for motherland. Kanhaiya has same qualities in common."

The BJP took strong exception to Tharoor's comment saying it was an insult to the "great freedom fighter" as well as all patriots of the country.

It is not only opportunistic of BJP/RSS that borders on fun as it comes from them who have nothing to do with Bhagat Singh's ideology and Indian Struggle of Freedom. RSS/BJP have nothing in common except the opposite poles of thoughts and belief with the freedom fighter. Why? Let me reproduce some lines of my own article published here:

"The great historian K.N. Panikkar has described Singh as one of the early Marxists in India. According to the political theorist Jason Adams, Bhagat Singh was less enamoured with Marx than with Lenin. From 1926 onward, he studied the history of the revolutionary movements in India and abroad. In his prison notebooks, he quoted Lenin in reference to imperialism and capitalism and also the revolutionary thoughts of Trotsky. When asked what his last wish was, Singh replied that he was studying the life of Lenin and he wanted to finish it before his death. Singh believed that religion hindered the revolutionaries' struggle for independence. Bhagat Singh wrote an essay entitled "Why I am an Atheist." He said in that he used to be a firm believer in the Almighty, but could not bring himself to believe the myths and beliefs that others held close to their hearts. He acknowledged the fact that religion made death easier, but also said that unproven philosophy is a sign of human weakness. Let us see how steadfast I am. One of my friends asked me to pray. When informed of my atheism, he said, "When your last days come, you will begin to believe." I said, "No, dear sir, Never shall it happen. I consider it to be an act of degradation and demoralization. For such petty selfish motives, I shall never pray." Reader and friends, is it vanity? If it is, I stand for it."….End of the quote.

These reactionaries have nothing workable to use as Spar Bag, nothing to boost about NDA performance. The sand in time-glass is slipping fast. What they have got is - Soniaji and Rahul Gandhi to beat about the bush.

"Bhagat Singh went to the gallows chanting 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' while fighting for the country's independence. Comparing Kanhaiya Kumar with Bhagat Singh is an insult to the freedom fighter and all the patriots. Shashi Tharoor should tell if Kanhaiya is Bhagat Singh, then what are Rahul and Sonia Gandhi," BJP's Shahnawaz Hussain said.

Shahnawaz Hussain is so innocently, blissfully ignorant of Indian History today that someone has to remind him - Soniaji is the Congress President, a party that snatched independence from the British Masters when the mentors of fanatics were hobnobbing with Angrez. She is widow of a Prime Minster of India who was martyred; she is the daughter-in-law of Indira Gandhi - the martyr and grand daughter-in-law of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. As Nehru Family is a nightmare for RSS, it would be unnecessary to describe Rahul to them at this juncture. He is - The future of Indian Politics.

BJP leader and actor Paresh Rawal also criticised Tharoor's IQ for such statement. Rawal tweeted, "At the cost of repeating myself I must say @sShashiTharoor IQ is lower than his shoe size! Who is Paresh Rawal? He was small time villain of Telugu films. His performance as eunuch received wide recognition 'Tamanna (1996). I say - Big hat and no cattle!

All the hell let loose in some quarters at Tharoor's matter-of-fact comments. "Bhagat Singh was a young man in his 20s with Marxist beliefs who had great passion for motherland. Kanhaiya has same qualities in common."

True, Kanhiaya has long way to go but Rohith and Kanhaiya have already shattered the myth of RSS Nationalism. The hypocrisy of 'Double Speek Rashtrawad' is exposed to the hilt. These youth are sending chill through the Nagpur spine. What is so offensive, insulting and reprehensible in Tharoor's comment?

It is nauseating to see the statue of the Killer of Father of Nation in a temple in India; it is dreadful to see the young boys of minority community being hanged for taking the permissible cattle to the market; it is dangerous and anti-national to be complicit in Kashmir in forming a government with those who allow flutering the Pakistani flag on India soil almost every month.

Someone has remarked that since the Bharatiya Janata Party took power, the Hindu right has tried to bend the red iron rod of Indian pluralism with its rabid majoritarianism. The further it has tried to bend the rod, the closer it has come to meeting its other end, its alter-ego: left-wing extremism. The Horse-Shoe syndrome!

The extreme right and extreme left have more in common than they care to admit. In other instances, BJP is friendly to big business. It has tacit support for political violence at the Patiala House lawyers who thrashed Kanhaiya Kumar. The Muzaffarnagar riot-accused are ministers in the government.

Kanhaiya is a student leader who is asking azadi from capitalism, communalism and extremism. He is asking azadi form hunger. He is a student of Jawaharlal Nehru University, which houses the brightest, most driven and idealistic young minds from across the country.

What BJP needs is azadi from the prison of Ideological Sadistic Materialism and the hubris that had plagues from top to bottom..

The uproar against Tharoor's comments are - much ado about nothing. An election gimmick!
