AFTER ACTOR Smriti Irani campaigned for the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) last week in Jamshedpur, it was now Shatrughan Sinha, yesteryear superstar and former minister for shipping and health, who appealed to people to vote for BJP candidate Raghuvar Das, contesting from the Jamshedpur East assembly seat. The star visited Jamshedpur on Sunday, November 22.
The BJP is on a roll with iconic figures from the small to the big screen to woo voters. Sinha in his speech slammed Madhu Koda, for his money laundering and corruption. He also blamed him for destroying the image of the fledging state of Jharkhand.
"Jharkhand has been neglected and devastated by corrupt and unscrupulous politicians like Koda who, for his own selfish interest, laundered the common man's money. The amount that Koda has been accused of, will be brought back and used for the state's development if the BJP wins in the upcoming assembly elections," said Sinha, who had contested and won the general elections from Patna Saheb, Bihar by defeating Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) candidate Sahu. He added that it is candidates like Raghuvar Das who sympathise with the marginalised and neglected tribal community.
He also mentioned the catastrophic effect of price rise in basic commodities because of the flawed economic policies of the Congress at the Centre government. "The price rise is a direct failure of a government that operates in a country which has a large middle class and below poverty line (BPL) population. During the tenure of the BJP at the Centre the prices were under control and the exchange rate in the international market of the rupee was stronger than it is today,” said Sinha.
Speaking about Naxalism and the increasing violence in the state, he remarked that it cannot be solved through more violence but, through peaceful negotiations. Shatrughan Sinha would be campaigning for other BJP candidates in the city and the state.
