Sheila Dikshit asks Delhi's citizens to be more vigilant
In the wake of Radhika Tanwar's murder, Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit said that a vigilant civil society needs to raise its voice. As a civil society we need to be more responsive. This way the society can prevent such incidents.
ON THE day when city was celebrating the international women’s day a DU student was shot dead. On this issue the city witnessed the protests over lack of safety for girls or women in town, and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit asked civil society to be vigilant.

She said that, “A vigilant civil society needs to raise its voice. As a civil society we need to be more responsive. This way the society can prevent such incidents.”

She was clear about one thing, which was that police is not the only factor which is responsible for the peacefulness in the city.

She said society is also responsible, which an acceptable thing is. Society should realise its responsibilities instead of blaming police and the government all the time. Raising voice for their rights is not the bad thing, but it should be done in a proper manner.

Like if we take the example of Radhika murder case, the recent case that caused outrage amongst Delhi University students resulting in many protestors taking to the streets on Delhi’s busy ring road - demanding the resignation of Delhi's Chief Minister.

The broad daylight murder took place around 10.20 am at Dhaula Kaun’s foot over bridge. Dhaula Kuan being a crowded area with numerous colleges in and around it, none of the passerby stood back to help her.

Hence this showed there is some fear in Delhi's public that stops them to help people in the time of their need. That is why our Chief Minister asked civil society to be vigilant instead of wasting time in protesting, jamming of roads, not attending the classes because due to this thing lots of other people would suffer.
