Shimoga film festival is a grand success
In the first week of April, the Shimoga Film Festival a four-day festival of award-winning Kannada films was organised by the Department of Information, district administration and Shimoga Belli Mandala, unit of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy.
SHIMOGA FILM Festival, a four-day long festival of award-winning Kannada films (Karnataka) was organised in April first week, 2010 by the Department of Information, district administration and Shimoga Belli Mandala, unit of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy.
 
Actor and MLC Jaggesh inaugurated the film festival. Actors Nitushree and Rashmi also participated in the festival. Films screened were Moggina Jade at Veerabhadreshwara Theatre on March 31, Gulabi Talkies at HPC Theatre on April 1, Ekalavya at Sri Manjunath Theatre on April 2, Janapada at Sri Lakshmi Theatre on April 2, Maataad Maataad Mallige at Sri Mallikarjun Theatre on April 2, Banada Belaku at Modern Theatre on April 3 and Vimukti at Sri Vinayaka Theatre on April 3. An array of other films were also screened from April 4 to 11. Mostly psychiatry films were screened.

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yedurappa gave away the awards to artists and technicians at a function at the Nehru Stadium, while Puneet Rajkumar received the Best Actor Award, Umashree was given the Best Actress Award. As many as 29 awards were presented on the occasion. CM also gave away the Rajkumar Award to late Vishnuvardhan, which was received by his wife Bharati. The Lifelong Achievement Award was awarded to Parvathamma Rajkumar. Film director Renuka Sharma was selected for the Puttanna Kanagal Award.

Karnataka Minister for Information Katta Subramanya Naidu, released a souvenir on the occasion; and the decision to raise the incentive for national award-winning Kannada films from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh was also taken.
