Shiney Ahuja granted bail by Bombay High Court
Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja was today granted bail by the Bombay High Court after being sentenced to seven years' imprisonment by a Mumbai sessions court. He was also asked to furnish a bond of Rs. 50,000.
SHINEY AHUJA who was nearly a month ago convicted for sexually assaulting his domestic help was granted bail by the Bombay High Court today. The sentence of seven years was awarded by a Mumbai sessions court on March 30 despite Shiney's cries of claiming innocence.
Ahuja was arrested on June 15, 2009, and had claimed that he was being framed in the case although medical reports proved otherwise. He was charged under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) with rape, along with wrongful restraint and intimidation.
Ahuja was also told not to leave the country without permission from the court, although the judge did not feel the necessity of keeping him in custody. As the bail was being granted, Justice A R Joshi asked Ahuja to furnish a bond of Rs 50,000.
While arguing for Shiney's bail, his lawyer, Senior Counsel Shirish Gupte said that he was charged although there was no allegation of the act. Apparently, the maid had told that trial court that there was no intercourse or rape.
The medical reports, however, confirmed rape and the court had also taken into consideration the DNA reports, medical evidences of the act and defensive marks on Ahuja's hands.
