Shiv Sena vouches for Mohan Bhagwat as the next President, says he will make India a Hindu Rashtra
With barely months left for President Pranab Mukherjee's presidential term to end, Delhi's political circles are abuzz with names of his possible successors.

A few popular names circulating are of senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla and Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan.

But in a recent surprise announcement, BJP's long-time ally Shiv Sena has proposed the name of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat for the top job of the country. The BJP is the political arm of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) which is a Hindu nationalist right-wing organisation.

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, who is also the editor of Sena's fiery mouthpiece Saamna, said that the party will support Bhagwat if the BJP projects him as its presidential candidate.

He however clarified that the final decision rested with party chief Uddhav Thackeray and the BJP should hold talks with him regarding the issue.

Raut said, "It is the highest post in the country. Somebody with a clean image should occupy it. We have heard Mohan Bhagwat's name is being discussed for President. If India has to be made a 'Hindu Rashtra', Bhagwat will be a good choice for President."
