Shiva temples decked up in Jaipur for night vigils and prayers on Maha Shivaratri
Maha Shivaratri festival, dedicated to Lord Shiva is celebrated in Phagun month's 13th night/14th day and this year it falls on February 13.

Shiva temples of Jaipur have been decked up for the occasion. The main festival, in the form of fair, will be celebrated at Galtaji tank which is also known as Chhoti Kashi. People will have a dip in the tank and observe fast.

People will also flock at the Shiva temple at Moti Dungri which is opened to devotees once in a year. People will line up chanting "Om Namah Shivaya", the sacred mantra of Shiva, and offer worship to Shiva Linga at the temple.

"During Shivaratri or the 'Vigil Night of Lord Shiva', we should dwell on the real purpose of life and the significance of the interval between destruction and regeneration as well as life and death. The feeling of 'Shivoaham' or  uniting one's self with that of Lord Shiva should be evoked on this day by fasting and doing meditation," said Meenakshi Dubey, a house wife and devout.

In Hinduism, Lord Shiva is considered supreme and beyond his creation. The followers of Shaivism believe in asceticism and self-purification as the way of bliss.
