Shocking affairs at Nigambodh ghat cremation ground
Fear of life has lead to Arya Samaj organization, Lodhi Road, to abandon the public-private agreement to manage Delhi's popular cremation ground Nigambodh Ghat.

THE ARYA SAMAJ organization has filed a complaint with the Central Information Commission (CIC), and in its application to the Public Information Officer, has alleged that some unnamed elements have threatened their staff with their lives - forcing the organization to abandon the cemetery. The President of Arya Samaj organisation, Lodhi Road, also revealed that the unholy semi-VIP culture of cremation was also repeatedly done at instance of such bad elements. What's more, the Public Information Officer is yet to reply to the complainant even after the passage of the mandatory 30 days.

The application for information mentions that semi-VIP culture of cremation is a big source of personal income for those behind promoting the semi-VIP culture of cremation, which continues in some form or the other despite stringent strictures by CIC.

CIC has forwarded copies of its verdict dated 23.09.2011 to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Delhi Police, and requested them to investigate the matter to book the culprits for necessary action. Meanwhile, it has been suggested that MCD should also ensure that the unholy semi-VIP culture of cremation may not be repeated under new management of Agrawal Panchayat.

The original complaint filed by complainant said, “It has become a usual practice to meant money by developing and encouraging semi-VIP culture of cremation at Nigambodh Ghat Cremation Ground. Earlier also, when the matter reached before CIC they removed grill around a platform which was known as semi-VIP platform, now again there is a similar case of allowing the sort of semi-VIP cremation which again the public authority is now promising to remove and give a commitment for not repeating the same in future.”

The Arya Samaj organisation has questioned whether authorities are aware of serious problems created or likely to be created in case some dead bodies are brought to be cremated in Arya-Samajist mode with burning pyres in the little space around Arya-Samajist pyres. Space for pyres has become problemetic, with haphazard pyre space management at Nigambodh Ghat.
