Shortkut - The Con is On: A-nil's real life con
Anil Kapoor's 'Short Kut - The Con Is On' is nothing but an adaptaion of his real life con. Anil uplifted the title that was originally an idea of filmmaker BS Bhullar and when caught in his act, he promptly offered a compensation of Rs 35 lakh
LOOK WHERE the mighty stoop. Anil Kapoor’s film as a producer 'Short Kut – The Con Is On' (SKTCIO) started with a real life con. The script goes like this: Filmmaker BS Bhullar had registered the title Shortcut with the Films Association in September 2005. He offered a central role to Anil and gave him the script of this movie too. But Anil refused this offer.

Good so far. But Anil used the title for his movie without informing Bhullar. When Bhullar came to know about it, he promptly filed a petition with the Delhi High Court, which promptly issued notice to Anil’s film company. Anil caught in the act of “uplifting” promptly offered a compensation of Rs 35 lakhs to Bhullar. Tsk tsk. Looks like in future filmmakers will be extra careful when offering scripts with titles to producer/filmmaker actors.

Just makes one wonder about this A-nil act. Morals and ethics can be done away with till the time one is caught. Wonder what other ‘deeds’ of these so-called mighties go unreported till action is taken. Will Anil like it if this was done to him? If morals and ethics do not hold water with A-nil, any esteem we may have for him has vanished. It’s all gone with the wind. If the beginning is with a con, wonder where it will end. What say A-nil?

And apparently, sauce for the goose is not sauce for the gander. Arshad Warsi refused to promote the film since Akshaye Khanna didn’t do the same. Anil finding them missing from the promotion of the movie, decided to promote the film himself. He was of course uplifting the ‘uplifted’ product. The movie is a frame to frame copy of Udayananu Tharam (Malayalam) that was remade into Velli Tharai (Tamil). Eddie Murphy-Steve Martin’s Bowfinger is the master print for all these movies. Murphy will cringe or get a heart attack if he comes across Short Kut. (Hope he doesn’t).

And after all these cons, one would think the movie would be a laugh riot (it is a 'comedy', pals.) I came out saying “shut this scrap out” (kut this krap out is passé!) It is such a pathetic movie; one will end up wondering why the title was lifted or why this movie was made at all in Hindi? It is just come and go with no impact no.

All As are here in A-nil’s movie – Arshad, Akshaye and Amrita Rao. And the movie is Z- grade. The jokes intended for raising laughter end up raising the viewers’ ire. A notch below and it will turn out to be a Bhojpuri flick.

As A-nil lifted the title in real life, Arshad the hero follows suit and does the same to the script writer Akshay. Arshad meets with superstardom whereas Akshay remains in pursuit of success. And Arshad’s script stealing nearly ends his dream. Arshad also dreams of ladylove Amrita, who is destined for the underdog. This pretty much sums up the movie. (Even this is too much).

It seems A-nil wanted only Akshaye for this role after he himself couldn’t play it due to his preoccupation elsewhere. Till the end, I couldn’t fine the value Akshaye added to this movie. Arshad was just going through the motions. Amrita was a new sexy look that would overhaul her career. If this is sexy, then what is plain Jane? She must take classes from Sreedevi or Madhuri. Better still, she should remain her original self. Such puny, slim lass should be happy with registering her presence. Sexy is a long way off, baby.

Atrocious costumes, jaded look, shitty acting and humourless humour send this movie packing on the first day itself. Pathetic, rubbish, crap – sorry, I’ve run out of words.

By all means go for this movie but only if you take a bottle of Anacin with you. (Keep stomach pain syrup and eye drops too). And take a pillow too in case you fall a prey to good night sleep (That would be better). But before going, enquire if they are offering the tickets for free. Then it’s all right. Also find out if they will offer pickup and drop along with popcorn and pop. If you have to suffer, why not enjoy it with the goodies. And don’t forget to say something nice about the movies. After all, you were offered freebies.

Wonder why A-nil made this movie? Wonder why he uplifted the title? Wonder why he played with the viewers’ tastes. For such a sorry product, he shouldn’t have stooped to conquer (sorry, conning.) It’s gross.

Wonder wonder wonder (This movie is the eighth wonder.) Why why why. (Why did the Censor Board release this movie?) Where are my broken old shoes and rotten tomatoes? (Tomato prices have increased in Delhi as all have been bought and taken to the theatres, where the movie is being played).

Why pay for this bullshit (sorry for the mild swearing!) and suffer. There are mega releases coming your way pretty soon. So, relax and enjoy the wait. Patience pays big time in a few weeks time.
