During the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances and Law and Justice had invited civil society representatives for submitting their opinion on Lokpall Bill 2011, representatives persisted that they want Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) should be kept away from the ambit of Lokpall Bill those which are not government-aided. But some committee members have put objection on it as they felt that all NGOs are not angels. They have not descended from heaven, some are corrupt, and also funded by illustrious business tacoon for self interests.
“If civil society wants to keep Prime Minister and Judiciary under ambit of Lokpall Bill then why objection for NGOs?” said one member from ‘Save the Girl Child’ NGO.
“I think everyone should come under Lokpall Bill, as corruption system is suppose for all not only for Prime Minister, Judiciary, Bureaucrats, Politicians etc.,” added another member from same NGO.
In a democratic country, all well-heeled citizens should be under Lokpall Bill. It will be wrong to keep NGOs away from purview of system in the country where every second person is paying bribe to get their work done. How can it guarantee that only government-aided NGOs are corrupt? In India, mostly NGOs have funded by affluent industrial houses and some also have international patrons. Does civil society thinks that all donors are non-corrupt and industrial houses are running in clean supremacy? In the interest of all people NGOs should be under ambit of Lokpall and government must consider it.
