Should we go for 'New Education Movement' that combines both social pedagogy and self-learning pedagogy for social change?
In many Western countries the conventional public and private education is being discarded and New Educational Movement with the centrality of social pedagogy is being tried out in educational and social institutions right from pre-primary education to residential care to voluntary informal work with children and young people.

The proponents and subscribers of the New Education Movement views children as equal human beings with innate potentials and possibilities to learn and bring about social change. Also, recently, child rights and right to education provisions have been accepted in most countries demanding 'learning by all' which have brought into focus both social pedagogy and instructional pedagogy for improved learning outcomes for most children.

The New Education Movement is based on two main precepts; first, making use of pedagogy for social change, and secondly, making the person a lifelong learner for individual change.

The implication is that the teachers as social professionals or social pedagogues need to seriously consider making the school and classrooms relationship-centric and empathetic to strike a balance between social education and academic education.

Of late, social pedagogy has emerged as an academic discipline and professional area of human resource development that considers relationship of the individual to society central for the entire lifespan of an individual for his or her wellbeing.

The curriculum development and creation of new qualifications with social pedagogy courses have given a new dimension to the child development, community collectivisation, educational practices and social development practices.

With increasing number of young people experiencing disabilities, marginalisation, exploitation, family breakdown, migration, etc.; they are being treated as people- in-care requiring support.

At the family or parental level, social pedagogy as practice, relates to planned actions for personal development, social education and care of the child by parents assisted by the professionals in educational and social care initiatives.

 It is being perceived that social pedagogy has provided a conceptual framework within which, we can locate social care, community welfare, parental care and educational practices.

ABC of school based social pedagogy

A: Assumption is that learning is a social act with embedded instructional pedagogy

B:  Bringing care and well-being to centre-stage in classrooms emphasising self-awareness and social skills

C: Considering the school as a web of school-community, teacher-teacher, teacher-management, learner-learner relationships

D: Deeming social pedagogy in terms of varied grouping, such as one-to-one, pair, triad, small group, and whole class grouping, essential for learning

E: Enacting relations-centric cooperative, collaborative, participatory, team work based leaning strategies.

Personally, I think that "The New Education Movement" with its pedagogical soundness for social education and academic education can be a viable model with recognition of rights of children including those of differently abled children. The principles and practices of social pedagogy provide pre-conditions to individual learning in social setting of institutionalized education.
