INDIA IS celebrating its 62nd Independence day while there are thousands of Indians living their lives on the edge and struggling each day for that air of 'Independence and freedom'.
With growing popularity of the dowry laws like 498 A, now there is a growing population of the misuse victims associated with the abuse of this law. While the accuser is called a 'dowry victim', there are thousands of accused (mostly innocent) who are being tortured to that extent that now they should be rather called 'dowry law victims'.
Coming across a new case of the abuse of such laws almost once every week, I wonder why we, the Indians are not concerned about these 'dowry law victims'. Some of them commit suicide, while some of them die in police custody. What if the accused is proved to be innocent five years later, who will bring his life back? Have we asked ourselves, who gives maintenance to his family or who pays compensation to his aggrieved parents and siblings?
The fact is that there is no law to take care of these cases and prevent the abuse of such laws. There is no provision of financial support for these victims as if they were born to be killed. No one is held responsible for their death and the cries of their parents fall on deaf ears. Even a terrorist in this country is eligible for a fair trial while these people give their lives up waiting for a 'fair trial'.
We need to awake on the coming independence day and ask for a life more than anything else. Authorities should provide for the following to control this 'dowry law death' menace:
A Law for the 'prevention of cruelty against accused in dowry law'.
A law for 'prevention of dowry law death'. If a 'dowry law victim' dies (whether in custody or elsewhere), his family can file a complaint on his behalf against the people suspected to be responsible for his death (including authorities whoever were responsible for torturing him).
The death of such dowry law victim should be treated as murder. Burden of proof should be on anyone accused under the above two sections of the law. And the accused be treated as 'guilty until proven innocent'.
The family of this 'dowry law victim' should be provided a maintenance from the people who have misused 498 A and domestic violence against him.
If these things are not followed/cannot be followed then at least the 498 A and DV laws should be amended, so that they do not cause further loss of lives and dowry law deaths'.
I am not a ministry or an organisation; I am just a human being asking this nation on the grounds of humanity to stop this menace of dowry law deaths. He was also someone’s brother or someone’s son, and more than anything else, he was also a human being like you and me. On this independence day, at least light a candle for him and pledge to make this country really free, free from 'dowry law deaths'.

What you have written is very thoughtful and true. I am another victim of this false dowry law. I want to ask the same question to the government of India who will give me my years back after all these years?
Misuse clause should be put to this law and such women and their family should be punished heavily for spoiling a mans life and misusing law . Make all the laws gender neutral as law is supposed to protect men also. India should also have a mens commission to hear grievences of men
Not only 498a all the laws are biased and screwing men rrom allthe sides. D.V, maintenance, rape charges, alimoney everything is against man all over the world. The laughing part is nobody given much attention for mans suffering. The main culprit is we ourselves. For the women there are lot of feminist organizations are fighting for their right but for men no strong arganization are there. all the political parties, organization are forms men but for their right they are not ready to form an organization. Unless we man united and form an international mans right organization there will be more draconian laws will the passed and we will be in more danger.
Today, Supreme court of India gave a judgement on rights of un married women(Hindhu) on the ancentral property. SC sighted that property should gender neutral. Tehn why gender bias law of 498a or DV act.
Very true.. This is a law totaly against the spirit of our constitiution.. innocent unless proved guilty.I am from new mumbai and was picked up like a criminal by the khrghar police showing unnatural efficiency even ignoring the guidelines the state of maharashtra had formulated , i.e to counsel the warring parties, investigate the matter and then if necessary arrest with a warrant. Today my home is broken my wife has taken away my child even not allowing to meet the baby despite a visitation order.. God please help..
Thaks for give us Psychological Air as we are also suffering with my Old aged parents by the hand of cruel and greedy mother in law in support of her daughter who resides at Farakka,NTPC,Malda. The name of cruel ladies are Suparna Chaudhury(Daughter) and Minati Chaudhury(Mother),Subash Chaudhury(Father) and Ritu Chaudhury(sister).Awareness to all of the viewers to be cautious from this cheat family.
The laws are made by the corrupt legislators under the corrupt influence of foreign money channeled by the corrupt feminist entities like Lawyers Collective. The propaganda unleashed by these corrupt entities is unparalleled in the history of our country. Until the population wakes up and challenges these corrupt entities, the rest of us must take a pledge to support and aid the victims of this state sponsored legal terrorism. The only victims in this saga are those at the receiving end of the illegitimate laws.
Men(Male) faces problems and exploitation in every aspect of life from the early childhood
to older age no one try to listen him instead they make a fun of its missery. IN our
country(India) and every place men facing the exploitation from every one from the
government policies, Law makers, Police departments and majorly from the Women side. You
can see and agree that the law only made in kept the women in mind for there benefit and
forget about the men. Inspite of the fact that the men do most of the work in hazardious
environment and paying the major portion of its earning in taxes and run the family but
there is no relief from any side for the men but the government polices are discriminately
towards the men as all the relaxation given only for the women for ex. in tax and starting
a scheme like ladli but not any scheme for the boys for encouraging them.
Lopsided approach will not pay any result.Media is also biased against men and their families. There is need for agressive but peaceful posture by large scale marches/chakka jam
498a and DV act are two most abused laws in India. Totally lopsided and biased against men. Time has come when there should be a National commision for Men and laws for men also. Those who abuse the law should be put behind the bar.
