A deputation called upon the President of Shri Ram Sena, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajiv Mahajan, to apprise him about the problems being caused by arbitrary decisions by private schools such as increasing fees.
A DEPUTATION of parents of school childrens studying in various private schools of Jammu called on Rajiv Mahajan, state president of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Ram Sena to apprise him of the various problems faced by them due to the arbitrary decision of the private school managements.
The deputation told Mahajan that the private schools have increased their admission and tuition fees by a huge amount causing lot of distress to the parents. They also said that students in the same school were being being asked to pay Rs 6000 as admission fees for being admitted to the higher class. In addition, they informed that excess admission fee to the tune of Rs.25000 to Rs.30000 is being charged from each student.
They also said that the monthly fee has been enhanced from Rs.1200/- to Rs.1500/- thus causing great problems to the students. The deputationists have also complained that private schools have also introduced the School diary against the cost of Rs.150 which is valued at Rs.50 in the market. After listening to the woes of the harried parents, Rajiv Mahajan, State President of Shri Ram Sena, appealed to the concerned authorities to re-view their admission fees, annual fees and other charges, cost of the dairy, and uniform of the school in the interest of the public in general and in the interest of the administration of the schools.Rajiv Mahajan, also sought information from private schools as to how many students from Below Poverty Line (BPL) category have been admitted by them as per the government direction. He said the government had directed the private schools to admit about 25 per cent students from BPL section in their institutions without charging any fees from them.Mahajan said that most of these schools and colleges are run by politically connected people, who only aim to maximise profit from the business.
