Shri Ram Sena threatens agitation if IMFA not provided accommodation in JU Old campus
Shri Ram Sena Jammu-Kashmir has expressed serious concern over the miserable plight of students of the Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), Jammu, who have not been provided a permanent accommodation since they were evacuated from the unsafe Institute building at Poonch House, Talab Tillo, Jammu more than 2 years ago.
Mahajan reminded that the prestigious institute which is going to celebrate its Golden Jubilee in 2015 is still deprived of housing facility. He regrets the false promises made by Minister for higher education Mohd Akbar Lone of providing the accommodation to IMFA from next session to be started from August 2013, which is over now.
Shri Ram Sena threatened to launch agitation and block national highway, if the students of the Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), Jammu
are not provided the accommodation in Old University Campus Canal road within 15 days period from today. Shri Ram Sena state president Rajiv Mahajan said that Sena in coordination with students and their parents will start agitation which includes blocking of National high way and protest rallies.
Rajiv Mahajan said the Jammu University, two years ago, shifted the students and staff of IMFA from unsafe Institute building at Poonch House to a rented accommodation at Tavish College Channi Rama, and after some time the Institute was shifted from Tavish College building to Luthra Building Talab Tillo, Jammu, where the Institute is functioning at present.
JU authorities had agreed to accommodate the IMFA in Varsity’s old campus at Canal road but nothing has been done till date and the institute is still running at rented building at Talab Tillo.
Minister for higher education Mohd Akbar Lone also had promised to accommodate IMFA at Old University Campus Canal road, but he too has forgotten his word.
Rajiv Mahajan appealed to the Governor NN Vohra and the chief minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene in the matter and direct Jammu University authorities to hand over Varsity’s old campus to IMFA after proper renovation at an earliest. Mahajan also reminds minister for higher education Mohd Akbar Lone of his word and appealed him to fulfill his promise at an earliest.
