Shri Ram Sena state president, Rajiv Mahajan in a statement issued here today said that the use of tobacco by the youth had attained alarming situation and ruined the health of lakhs of young men inflicting various tobacco related ailments.
Mahajan maintained that merely banning of gutka is not enough but its implementation in letter and spirit needs to be adopted. He also welcomed increase in VAT on cigarettes in the state and simultaneously demanded complete ban on sale and use of tobacco and tobacco products in any form in the state as well.
Many states in India have banned the sale and manufacture of gutka and tobacco products. This has resulted in less and less street-side hawkers and kiosks selling it on the streets and localities. The ban, as per latest research, has forced manufacturers to shut down manufacturing units.
