Sidhu's wife to contest Punjab polls
While Sidhu managed to convince the party high command to secure a ticket for his wife, Navjot Kaur has a tough task ahead with resentment brewing among BJP and SAD over her candidature for the seat, besides she faces a tough poll battle against Congress heavyweight.

SIGHU’S WIFE Navjot Kaur, a gynaecologist by profession has started her political career. President of the Amritsar District Cycling Association, she submitted her papers from Amritsar (east) assembly seat, contesting on BJP ticket. Kaur has gross total income of Rs 11, 50, 030 as per 2010- 2011 Income Tax returns. She and her husband have moveable properties worth over Rs 77 lakh and Rs 7.13 crore respectively. She has immovable property worth over Rs 2.38 crore and her husband has over Rs 12 crore. The couple also possesses many luxurious cars including a Toyota Land Cruiser worth Rs 11 lakh, two BMWs worth Rs 95 and Rs 75 lakh and a Toyota Fortuner worth Rs 21.4 lakh.

Veenu, wife of Manpreet Singh Badal, chief of the People's Party of Punjab is not contesting elections but she is a star campaigner of the Party. On the Other hand, Charanjeet Kaur Bajwa, wife of Gurdaspur MP Pratap Singh Bajwa; Suman Kaypee, wife of Jalandhar MP Mohinder Singh Kaypee are ready to make their debut in mainstream politics.

Interestingly, while their spouses are members of the Parliament, these three have preferred to try their chance in the assembly polls rather than Parliamentary polls. Having a strong backing of their better-halves, these political novices would try their luck to wrest a constituency seat in Punjab Assembly polls scheduled on January 30.

Navjot Kaur would take on former Amritsar Mayor Sunil Dutti. Charanjeet Kaur Bajwa, wife of Gurdaspur Congress MP Pratap Singh Bajwa would contest from Qadian Assembly seat against Education Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan. Likewise, Congress MP Mohinder Singh Kaypee’s wife Suman Kaypee has been fielded from Jalandhar West constituency seat. The sitting MPs also came under fire for securing a party ticket for their wives in the Punjab Assembly polls.

While Sidhu managed to convince the party high command to secure a ticket for his wife, Navjot Kaur has a tough task ahead with resentment brewing among BJP and SAD over her candidature for the seat, besides she faces a tough poll battle against Congress heavyweight. On the other hand, preferring his wife over his brother for the Qadian seat, Pratap Bajwa has upset his brother Fatehjung Bajwa, who wanted to contest from his home turf Qadian in the assembly polls. Apparently, to stay on the same wavelength when it comes to politics, these three women candidates would be banking on their MP husbands to win Punjab Assembly elections.
