Sindhu Rakshak mishap: Defence Minister needs to answer a few questions to the citizens
One of the recently refitted nuclear capable submarines INS Sindhu Rakshak (Protector of the sea) has gone down on Indian Independence Day eve with 18 officers and men of Navy martyred not because they were not capable but because the submarine was so old.
People who sail in Indian submarines are never sure that if they submerge it whether they will be able to resurface. India
had 19 submarines and two aircraft careers a few years back, this indeed is a very potent force. Under our very able ‘Mr.Clean’ Defense Minster AK Antony, now we are left with just 12 very old submarines. One Air Craft carrier has been moth balled long time back and the INS Virat in service is so old that it is just a floating platform.
Our Air Force which had 42 fighting squadrons has been left with just 31 squadrons, only one more from Pakistan due to lack of fighter jets. Indian Army’s last induction of heavy artillery guns was in 1986 when Bofors guns were bought. With corruption surfacing in that deal, nobody risked any new induction of machineries since then.
In our 3000 tanks hardly 30 percent are capable of night fighting. We have in public sector 39 huge ordinance factories, 42 states of art laboratories and eight huge PSUs excluding DRDO. Their functioning is so shoddy that Indian army is now going to buy Rifles, the very basic weapon from abroad.
We have Tatas, Mahindras and Birlas - all ready to build state of art weapons for us but our political leaders for some unknown reason are eager to buy everything from foreign countries by paying a hefty price. Why a country like India which can produce its own PSLV and GSLV Rockets, State of art satellites, nuclear reactors, Chandrayaan, and state of art vehicles - why cannot it produce its own weapons? It is time people of India get into these details and questions their Netas.
