THE YOUTH Olympic Games (YOG) that commences next month in Singapore has already caught the attention of the world media. Slated to be a real treat, the opening ceremony will make the stadium come alive with the fireworks, elaborate costumes and beautiful displays. It is reported that the event will be hosted at the Marina Bay floating platform and the construction for this extravaganza is almost complete, say the organisers. The event is slated to happen between 14th August 2010 to 26th August 2010.
The venue will be filled with about 100 tonnes of water, more or less that will give it an image of a reflecting pool and over 100 people will perform around the pool making it one of the most spectacular events in the history of Singapore with an orchestra of 40 odd local musicians commissioned to play music during the opening ceremony.
Geraldine Ho who was once a party of the Singapore Hockey team that won the gold medal during the 1993 South East Asian games has also composed one track for the upcoming event. The song is titled “For what we believe” and the 37 year old former athlete says that she wrote and composed this song for other athletes so as to boost their morale. The start of this event will be marked in Ancient Olympia,Greece as it is done in all Olympic Games with the lighting of the Youth Olympic Game. The game will witness nearly 3600 athletes from 205 National Olympic Committees competing in 26 different sporting events. Apart from the action packed sporting events that will take place in 18 venues across Singapore, the committee will also host cultural and education programs to educate and entertain the athletes about the Olympic values.
