Sir Donald Bradman's batting average will never be bettered
When we compare batting greats and their records, no one stands in comparison to Sir Donald Bradman whose near-perfect batting average still stands and modern greats such as Tendulkar and Lara have tried but failed.
HERE ARE some interesting statistics related to batting record of past and present players. These give us an indication of how difficult it is to build long innings.
Double and Tripple Tons in the same series:
Sir Don Bradman - 254, 334, 232 against English-1930
Wally Hammond- 227, 330 against New Zealand- 1932
Don Brdman- 304, 244 against England- 1934
Micheal Clarke- 320, 210 against India-2011
Douglas Walters again of Australia in the series against West Indies (1968-69) became the first player to score a century and a double century in a single Test. In the current series against Australia there had been a great partnerships as under:
4th Wicket-
Ricky Ponting and Micheal Clarke- 386
5th Wicket- Micheal Clarke and Michael Hussey 334
4th Riicky Ponting and Michael Clarke -288
In the international game of cricket we have greats such as Sir Donald Bradman, Sir Gary Sobers, Hammond, Lara, and Sachin while Dravid, Sehwag, Ponting, Clarke, Kallis and others. But no one comes closer to Sir Don Bradman when you talk of the comparison. He was a great cricketer while Lara, Sachin stand nowhere compared to him.
Sehwag is trying to catch up to the players of yesteryears but can never reach their heights. Dravid our Wall did play well, Sachin with maximum no of Test/ ODIs played and scored 99 centuries - but he is nowhere near to Sir Bradman. Sehwag with a
world record of 219 runs in ODIs in spite of his best effort can never match the magical batting of average of Sir Bradman.
