Out of the 91 Indian IPS officers, 33 are engineering graduates, 14 are M Phil and PhDs and the remaining 24 are doctors, management and law graduates.
These officers completed their 46 week training at the academy, before being a part of the passing out parade, which was held in the presence of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. These probationers are now being sent to the North East and Jammu and Kashmir for army and paramilitary attachments.
The new batch has also undergone a management module with the local Indian School of Business, a programme that was initiated for the first time by the academy, besides river rafting and scuba driving training.
Apart from this, these officers received training in jungle warfare, along with a new curriculum, which included internal security, investigation, special laws and criminology. They also received the reputed Greyhound training in anti-guerrilla warfare, apart from joining the Tamil Nadu STF in the Satyamangalm forest.
On this day, fearing an attack on the academy, following the revelation of a terror plot to attack the National Defense College, the security here remained on alert and armed guards were posted on the top of the academy building.
