Taking responsibility for their actions, Pakistani Taliban commander Qari Hussain Mehsud said that their war is against American and Pakistani security forces, but Shiites are also their targets because they, too, were their 'enemies'.
AGAINST THE backdrop of nature's fury, political instability, sporting scandals another catastrophe hit Pakistan as the Pakistani Taliban triggered suicide attack on a Shiite Muslim procession that killed about 65 people on Friday. A number of critically wounded people lost their lives in the hospital. The blast took place in the city of Quetta, injuring more than 150 people and killing 65.
This was a second consecutive attack in a week as the Taliban took responsibility for the bombings. A triple bombing incident that took place on Wednesday in Lahore had killed 35 people. Taking responsibility for their actions, Pakistani Taliban commander Qari Hussain Mehsud said that their war is against American and Pakistani security forces, but Shiites are also their targets because they, too, were their 'enemies'.He proudly added that he was happy that US had added Pakistani Taliban in its international terrorism blacklist on Wednesday. He further added that US and Europe should gear up for another round of attacks and it would bear resemblance to that of the aborted car bombing that was earlier attempted in Times Square.
A statement issued from the White House condemned the act and said that, to target innocent civilians during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan at an already difficult time as the country is working hard to recover from terrible flooding caused by monsoons makes these acts even more reprehensible.Pakistani Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani too condemned this act and demanded immediate investigation although security has been beefed up in the terror hit areas.
