Skoda Auto India launched its entry level mid-sized sedan Skoda Rapid in India on Wednesday. The car, to be available in both petrol and diesel variants, will be powered by a 1.6 litre engine.
THE CZECH car maker Skoda launched its C segment sedan “Skoda Rapid” during a function in Taj Palace in New Delhi on Wednesday at a price tag of Rs 6.75 lakh (ex-showroom in Delhi) for the base petrol variant. Skoda will be available both in petrol and diesel variants. The Rapid will be produced at the group’s Chakan plant in Pune.

Skoda Rapid, which is based on the platform of Volkswagen’s Vento, will be available in three variants – Active, Ambition and Elegance. Skoda Rapid Ambition and the top-end Skoda Rapid Elegance will be available for Rs 7.09 lakh and Rs 7.99 lakh respectively. The diesel version will be available between the price tag of Rs 7.95 lakh to Rs 9.19 lakh. At present, Skoda has 90 dealers in the country and the company is planning to extend it by 100 by next few months.
Skoda Rapid will be powered with 1.6 litre petrol engine with maximum power of 77kW(105PS)@5250rpm and maximum torque of 153Nm@3800rpm and 1.6 litre diesel engine with maximum power of 77kW(105PS)@4400rpm and maximum torque of 250Nm@1500–2500rpm.
The latest car from Skoda will be available in five colours - brilliant silver, candy white, cappuccino beige, deep black pearl and flash red. Its features including front passenger seat adjustment from rear seat using ergo-lever, anti-pinch windows, one-touch operation for electrically adjustable windows, adjustable dual rear air-conditioning vents.
Skoda Rapid features also include security code for audio player, height and length adjustment for steering wheel, driver and front passenger airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), remote controlled central door locking with comfort operation of electric windows, electrically adjustable external mirrors and multi-function information display.
Skoda Rapid will have to compete with other sedans in the market such as Maruti Suzuki SX4 and Swift Dzire, Hyundai Verna Fluidic, Honda City, Chevrolet Aveo, Ford Fiesta, Tata Indigo Manza, Fiat Linea, Nissan Sunny.
